Getting Started

Get LogMark running and make your first capture in under a minute.

1. Download and Install

Download LogMark for Windows. Run the installer and follow the prompts. LogMark installs to your user folder and runs from the system tray.

2. Your First Capture

Press Ctrl+PageUp from anywhere. Type your thought. Press Enter. Done.

# Your first capture
idea: LogMark captures thoughts without context switching

That's it. Your thought is saved. LogMark returns you to whatever you were doing.

3. Configure Your Vault

On first run, LogMark asks where to store your captures. You have two options:

  • Existing Obsidian vault - Point to your vault root. LogMark creates a logmark/ folder inside.
  • New folder - Create a dedicated folder for LogMark captures.

Your vault location is stored in %APPDATA%\LogMark\bootstrap.json. You can change it anytime from Settings.

4. Explore Your Vault

Captures are plain markdown files organized by type and route:

vault/
logmark/
_ideas/2026.md # Unrouted ideas
_tasks/2026.md # Unrouted tasks
_diary/2026.md # Log entries
projects/
backend/_ideas/2026.md # +backend ideas
backend/_tasks/2026.md # +backend tasks
_system/
log.md # Capture history

5. Entry Format

Each capture is appended to the appropriate file with a timestamp and context:

---
## 2026-02-04 14:32
idea: cache invalidation might fix the flaky test
context: VS Code - parser.ts
